2009 ACC CHAMPIONS

The TERPS battled for 70 minutes with UVa today, overcoming a 2-0 deficit with 2 second-half goals and then holding on to force overtime. In OT, our 7 got possession, forced the play, got the corner and scored! The celebration began and rightly so. The TERPS are Champions in the toughest conference in the country.

So we wait now for NCAA pairings and sites on Tuesday. Thinking we will be at home on Sat and Sun. Hope to see you all there.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

The TERPS held on last night, prevailing 3-2 over Wake and will take on Virginia in the ACC Championship game tomorrow at noon.

The TERPS jumped out to a 1-0 lead courtesy of an OD steal and great pass to Nicole Muracco in front of the goal. With about 10 minutes left, Emma Thomas converted a penalty corner to give the TERPS a 2-0 lead. First half was choppy for both teams but the TERPS had the edge going into halftime.

The second half opened just about the same. Lot of play in between the 25's with a few shots and one or two corners. With 25 minutes left though, the TERPS broke through. Bri stole a pass at half field and sprinted down the far sideline and crossed the ball to Ameliet Rischen who sent it in for the TERPS goal and a 3-0 lead. But just about 30 seconds after, Wake scored. TERPS 3-1.

After a TERP timeout, Maryland got control and took the next 5 shots but put nothing on the board. Wake then had the next 6 opportunities with nothing to show until they scored on a rebounded penalty corner shot at about the 27 minute mark. The TERPS get the goaltending nod with Ali G's 6 saves, 4 in the second half.

Watch the game tomorrow on Comcast Sports Net or listen on wmucsports.com.

ACC TOURNAMENT

The #1 seeded TERPS will be playing #4 Wake Forest at 4PM in the first ACC Tournament semifinal tomorrow. Wake defeated Boston College 4-3 today to move to the semis.

The TERPS practiced this AM, lunched and had some free time before going back to the field to watch the second half of the Wake/BC game. The rest of the afternoon was rest and relax.

And so, the second season starts. The TERPS have had a great regular season and are looking to extend that play deep into the post season. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the game.

TERPS, Tarheels - Saturday

It may be the premier college field hockey regular season match of the 2009 season. Undefeated, #1 Maryland and undefeated #2 North Carolina get underway at Henry
Stadium tomorrow at 1PM.

By the numbers, the TERPS and Tar Heels are ranked either #1 or #2 in a variety of categories in the ACC from shots per game to scoring margin to goals scored, etc.
Both have potent offenses, both have stingy defenses. Goalkeeping - nod to TERPS!

If you are not in NC, you can listen on wmucsports.com or go to umterps.com and follow schedule to FH at UNC then go to GT icon.

OH, it should be fun!

TERPS over ODU

The TERPS controlled the game from beginning to end, running out to 5-0 before ODU got on the board.

OD opened the scoring about 14 minutes into the first half, taking a break-away pass from Nicole Muracco and making it 1-0 TERPS. Nic then got her 1st goal, getting an almost identical pass from Lindsey Puckett in front and converting. Nicole then made it 3-0, recording her 20th goal of the year. Fellow senior, Kristina Foster got the assist.

The weather must have been music to our English players ears! Emma Thomas got the TERPS 1st penalty corner goal with assists to OD and Alexis at about the 15-minute mark of the 2nd half. Next, fellow Englishwoman, Harriet Tibble, put the ball on net for her first TERP goal and a 5-0 TERP lead! Congrats, Harriet!! ODU scored, 5-1. But Emma finished up the TERPS scoring on yet another successful penalty corner from Ali Mo and Alexis. ODU picked up 2 as the clock was ticking down.

Offense, Defense, Team!! Making it happen.

TERPS at Delaware, Sunday at 1pm. See you there.

TERPS Top AU 3-0

The TERPS wasted little time getting on the board as OD took a pass down the right sideline and did her thing around 1 or 2 players before sending the ball past the goaltender for a 1-0 TERP lead. And then, the game became a defensive struggle. Back and forth, give away, take away but neither team was able to break out.

After the half, much of the same. But with about 15 minutes remaining, the TERPS had a flurry in the circle resulting in a penalty stroke. Emma Thomas - score! Well done, Emma. TERPS 2-0. TERPS were in control, taking several shots that only missed by that much - really. Emma finished the TERPS scoring with a penalty corner goal with under a minute remaining. Defense was key today. Well done D. Well done TERPS!!

Next up #3 UVa - Friday at 4. Home.

Hope to see you all there.
